A Starving Viking is the stage name of indie folk singer/songwriter Matt Jarrett. Born and raised in upstate New York, his college years were spent studying film, music recording, and playing drums in his friend’s metal band. Later in New York City, he pursued a career in filmmaking and edited television shows. Music has been the one constant through-line in Jarrett’s life and since drums and urban apartments do not make good bedfellows, he embraced the acoustic guitar. A late discovery of Bob Dylan, Nick Drake, and various contemporary folk artists, led Jarrett to write songs that are all his own. He’s felt an intrinsic connection to music from Philip Glass to Frightened Rabbit.

Semblance is A Starving Viking’s debut album with Resonating Wood Recordings. Written, performed, recorded and mixed by himself, these songs emerged after leaving NYC behind in 2016 to travel in Scotland.

Minimal, raw acoustic earworms, Semblance is the culmination of growing old, leaving behind what you know, discovering where you belong... and embracing it all.
